Major Depressive Disorder, Major Depression or Clinical Depression is a state that reached a degree of sadness, despair and melancholy which disturb person’s daily life events and social functions.
Person’s sadness and despondency which is not effect person’s relations and daily events is usually calls, depression. However, clinical depression is a medical diagnosis and it is different from depression’s daily using. Person who has depressive disorder may feel tired, sad, lazy, frustrated, unmotivated and apathetic. Clinical depression is expressed that more intense sadness and an emotional state which reached a degree of affecting a person’s daily routines.
Major Depressive Disorder’s lifetime prevalence rate is %17-19, yearly prevalence rate is %1-9. (Angst 1992) It is a devastating disorder that causes severe physical and psychosocial disability and frequently seen, attacks which take longer, the risk of relapse and recurrence rates higher. Disability which caused by depression may in social and business areas and it may disturb person’s family life and economical life. Depression may affect not only person, it can affect person’s relatives too. (Davis and Glassman 1989) Death rate of suicide attempts are %15 and death that caused by suicide is relative whit MDD. (Angst 1992) During the depression, there may be disability on person, about psychologically, suddenly nervous disorders, extreme anxiety and fear of losing self-esteem. Physical effects due to the mental symptoms are extreme weight loss, nervous stomach disorders, vomiting, and excessive sweating. Depression is an illness which cannot get well without treatment, so external factors trigger this illness and causes to an increase in attacks. Treatment is relevant with patients’ desire about healing and it progresses effectively and efficiently. During the drug treatment, there may be attacks irrespective of the drug dose.
